About face reading: what it is and isn't
Face reading is a long-standing tradition that links facial features to temperament. It isn't a science, and ROYA doesn't claim otherwise. We offer it as a way to reflect on yourself.
What science says
There's no good scientific evidence that facial features predict personality. If a reading rings true, that may say more about how you see yourself than about your face.
What we've tested
We test whether the same person gets the same labels across different photos. On casual photos from a public research dataset, labels matched 64% of the time with single photos and 78% when combining three photos. When both results were high-confidence, single photos matched 75% of the time and three photos 84%. Two unrelated people would match about 54% of the time by chance, so these results are modest. Our target is 90%, which we haven't reached.
Those photos were not taken under our guidance, and photos taken following our guide may do better, but we haven't measured that yet. This testing only covers consistency. It doesn't show that any reading is true.
Please use ROYA responsibly
- Only read your own face, with your own consent.
- Never use a reading to judge someone else.
- Never use it to make decisions about jobs, money, housing, insurance or relationships.
- If you're struggling, please talk to a qualified professional. A reading can't replace that.
